Lights for Life Tree Will Be Lit on November 24

Lights for Life TreeThe holiday season officially kicks off in Ashland with the Festival of Light on November 24. Ashland takes on a magical quality: white lights illuminating storefronts from the Plaza southward along Main Street, all the way to the Ashland Public Library.

It’s there that you’ll find the festive and beautiful Lights for Life Tree. The tree has been a holiday tradition in Ashland for 30 years, standing tall in the public art space on Siskiyou Boulevard between the Library and the Fire Department. It is sponsored by the Asante Ashland Community Hospital Foundation. Each light on the tree represents a donation to the hospital in honor or memory of someone special.

“Lights for Life combines the spirit of the holidays with our town’s extraordinary sense of community,” says Janet Troy, executive director of the Asante Ashland Community Hospital Foundation. “Contributions can honor and thank someone special in your life, they can reach out to someone who has suffered a loss, or can highlight a joyful occasion.”

This year, the Lights for Life ‘Tree is a live evergreen that will be lit on Friday, November 24, as part of the town’s Festival of Light kickoff celebration.

In addition to recognizing contributions with lights on the tree, donations are also noted on a special display in the west lobby of Asante Hospital in Ashland. The person or family being honored receives a Lights for Life holiday card. The amount of each contribution remains confidential. Donors and their honorees are recognized in area publications, unless they choose to be anonymous.

People who make contributions have the option of supporting the hospital department most meaningful to them, says Janet. She notes that the Emergency Department, which serves more than 11,000 people each year, is a priority for fundraising efforts this year, which also marks the Foundation’s 40th anniversary.

“Over the last four decades our community has contributed more than $10 million to support their hospital,” says Janet. “Recent donations have added Telehealth to the Intensive Care Unit, created a Chapel, and refreshed the Family Birth Center. In this season of giving, a donation to Lights for Life is a wonderful way to continue supporting the hospital while honoring friends and loved ones.”

To make your tax-deductible contribution, you can donate online, send a check to P.O. Box 98, Ashland, OR 97520, or call the Foundation Office at (541) 201-4015.
