R&D’s Sandwiches & Deli

Brian and April Kenyon met in 1987 in Fallon, NV, just after Brian joined the Navy. And according to Brian, the desire to open a sandwich shop had been in their dreams pretty much since they met.
The couple would frequent a local sandwich shop in Nevada, and it attracted them to the business. After moving to Medford in 1991, they went to R&D’s Sandwich and Deli when it first opened up across from the Rogue Valley Mall. That was 18 years ago, and Brian was impressed with the place.
“The couple running R&D’s at the time seemed to really enjoy making great food and treating their customers like part of their family. We always enjoyed the food and the full experience at R&D’s; I always told April that this is the type of sandwich shop I would like to open someday.”
And then about two years ago an opportunity presented itself. “We were looking into opening a franchise sandwich shop when we heard a rumor that the owners of R&D’s were possibly looking to sell,” Brian recalled. “We knew we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to have our own restaurant rather than a franchise. The idea of owning a local landmark and being able to add our own touch to it was very inviting.”
So the couple met with Ron and Doreen and after four months agreed on a deal to purchase the restaurant. Ron and Doreen agreed to teach them “tricks of the trade.”
“We feel very lucky to start our journey with a great concept and look forward to adding our new and creative ideas to the menu,” Brian said.
R&D’s is known for their huge Pastrami and Beef Dips, which are the mainstays. “Our subs and sandwiches are known to be huge, and the quality of meat is the highest,” Brain said. “We also slice our meats, cheeses and veggies fresh daily. And we serve great soups and a variety of house made salads, and watch for new and creative sandwiches being invented every day.”
Since they purchased the restaurant, the couple has added several new sandwiches that have become very popular with their customers. “And be sure to look for more new items to come,” Brian continued. “Our customers can expect to be greeted by the best crew in town: Lori, Trina Raquel, Sheena, Janey (our daughter) and Nancy (Brian’s mom). You will be treated as part of the family and we expect that every customer should leave feeling satisfied they received the ‘best sandwich in town.’”
R&D’s also serve a variety of local microbrews on tap, as well as wine. In addition, they offer sub party platters, meat and cheese platters, and can cater almost any event.  
Also, R&D’s was previously known to only accept cash. That has changed; they now accept debit cards and Visa.
