Healthy, Flavorful Food at Taj Indian Cuisine

July 2018

Taj RestaurantTaj Indian Cuisine, which opened at 31 Water Street in March 2009, has had new owners since May 2016. Parvinder Singh and Jatinder Kaur, who bought the popular restaurant, continue in the same tradition promising to remain a family-oriented restaurant offering healthy, flavorful food.

“We are originally from Roseburg, then moved to California after we got married,” Parvinder said. “We have two beautiful daughters—Sehaj (4 and a half) and Sirat (18 months). When our older daughter was born, we thought about moving close to nature. Ashland is perfect for that, and it’s a great city.”

Jatinder’s brother Amrik owned a local convenience store and helped them get started at Taj.

“Our passion for food and working with the public brought us to Taj,” Parvinder said. “My first job was in the food industry, and in between I have done a lot of different jobs to support my dream. We’ve been saving our money for years to open our own business, and this a dream come true. We love to try new foods, walk through local markets to find interesting ingredients, and play around with different recipes.”

The food at Taj is a great mix of flavors and spices that makes Indian cuisine irresistible.
“Most of all, it’s healthy,” Parvinder said. “Indian food has unlimited health benefits, and our food is made fresh and is mostly local, when available. We try to use organic food and ingredients as much as possible, and no color is added. We also have vegan and vegetarian options, as well as a gluten-free menu and GMO-free.”

In addition to the ever-popular lunch buffet, the menu includes a variety of choices, from organic Broccoli Masala and Dal Makhani to Lamb Curry, Samosa, Basmati Rice, Tandoori Chicken, organic green salads, kheer, fruit salad, and lots more.

The weekday lunch buffet is only $11.95 Mon-Fri and $12.95 on weekends. They also offer a dinner buffet on Monday nights for $15.95. And, of course, you can always order off their menu at any time. Dinner is served seven nights a week from 5-9pm.

“We love Ashland, and we want our daughters to understand the diversity of this town,” Parvinder said. “We go to as many local events as we can, and we love to just walk around and enjoy new things. We are YMCA members, and our oldest daughter takes classes there. I love to play volleyball, and I’m teaching her how to play.”
