Speciality Food and Kitchenware at The Culinarium

November 2018

The CulinariumEven if you don’t know a sauté from a sous vide; if you are looking to gain some culinary wisdom; or to find the perfect gift for the cooking enthusiast in your life; head to The Culinarium at 270 E. Main Street in downtown Ashland.

Constance and David Jesser opened the specialty food and kitchenware store in September 2016. Inside their warm and welcoming shop, you’ll find brands that include Shun, Laguoile, Mauviel, All-Clad and Black Cube. They stock beautiful French table linens along with classic and cutting-edge kitchenware and gadgets. They select their food items for quality and uniqueness—oils, vinegars, salts, bitters and almost every truffle product under the sun. And they offer a selection of specialty pastas, escargot, caviar and more.

“Expect to find the unexpected and the delicious,” says Constance, who trained at the Cordon Bleu cooking school in Chicago. Currently, she offers cooking classes in people’s homes and publishes a monthly newsletter filled with recipes and ideas for cooking and entertaining. She plans to offer classes at local wineries as well as at the Ashland Food Co-op. And, she adds, there might be a cookbook in the works.

The Jessers’ first culinary venture was Jacksonville Mercantile after moving to the area from Sonoma. “When we moved to the Valley, we noticed a need for a specialty food and quality cookware store,” says David. “We both love to eat and cook, so it was a natural for us.” After eleven years, they closed the store in Jacksonville and opened The Culinarium.
David remains active in local politics and is president of the Jacksonville City Council. In his free time he plays guitar, meditates, and fishes. Constance loves to read, act, and run with their dogs, Jake and Elwood. But for both, making The Culinarium a special shopping experience for their customers is their top priority.

“You can expect to find more than just ordinary customer service at our store,” says David. “We’ll help you navigate our selection of cookware, cutlery and foods. We treat our customers like family and value the close relationships that have been nurtured over the years.”

And especially if you are looking for the perfect gift, Constance says, look no further than The Culinarium. “We’re a perfect one-stop shop for gift giving. All you need to do is tell us a little about the recipient, if they like to cook or bake (or eat), how much you want to spend, and we’ll make you look like a hero.”
