Get ‘n Gear Opens New Medford Location
Not long ago owner Greg Hayden and store manager Matt Endress, childhood friends from Indiana, were sitting around the backyard fire drinking a beer chatting about the future of their modest operation where the obvious became, well obvious. “There really isn’t anyone in Medford that does what we do,” Matt said. And what is it that they do?
Get ‘n Gear, an Ashland institution for 20 years, 10 under Greg’s captainship, offers quality, used and consigned outdoor equipment with a specialization in bikes. They also offer bicycle repair along with bicycle and snowshoe rental. While the new store will carry an array of higher-end products—particularly discounted, new premium brand apparel—the duo aims to maintain the original store’s hidden treasure vibe. “Our strategy has always been high volume, fair pricing,” Matt said. “If you hunt for a bit, you’ll find a deal that jumps out at you.”
Get ‘n Gear also feels especially lucky to have added a master level mechanic, Joe Bianculli, to their team as head wrench-turner last year. “Joe just kind’ve fell in our lap. He’s a guy who’s had his own shops, ran his own mechanic’s school, and worked with champion professional riders. He’ll probably be a little embarrassed when he reads this, but he’s the best bike mechanic I’ve ever seen.”
The new Medford location, in Consignment Row, at the corner of Stevens and Biddle, just hung its shingle and will celebrate its grand opening the first week of November. They welcome consignors and customers alike. “Medford residents appreciate quality items, but more than that, they want value. We believe Get ‘n Gear can fill that void in outdoor equipment and bicycles. We live in a world-class region for outdoor adventure and we want to make it easier for our weekend warriors to enjoy all those activities—especially when there’s so much great used gear out there.”
Get ‘n Gear Medford is located at 535 Stevens St. and can be reached at 541-816-4900.
