TonTon’s Artisan Affections

December 2017

TonTons Artisan AffectionsIn five years, Michael Antonopoulos, owner of TonTon’s Artisan Affections, has gone from leasing a spot in the Rent-A-Kitchen next to Ray’s to moving into his own kitchen at 109 Talent Avenue. And now he’s expanded his offerings to include lunch service, and also rents his FDA certified and gluten-free commercial kitchen to six other local businesses. The space also doubles as an event and workshop venue and is available to rent for special occasions.

“I learned kitchen basics and cooking as a child from my mother growing up in a Greek home,” Michael said. “While in my twenties I was worker-owner of Crumb’s Bakery in Athens, Ohio where I learned the business of baking and food production.”

Today, TonTon’s Artisan Affections is famous for their hummus here in the Rogue Valley, and with distribution from Mt Shasta to Portland in approximately 30 stores. “We are innovators in the gluten-free food industry, catering to vegans as well, with standards using only the highest quality organic ingredients available,” he said. “You will not find any of the questionable ingredients found in most GF foods; including xanthan gum, hydrogenated oils, processed sugars and GMO’s which are strictly avoided.”

TonTon’s product lines include grainless cookies, flourless coconut fudge brownies (“and our breads and muffins so good, you’d hardly believe they’re gluten-free.”)

Their lunch cafe features local organic teas by Eco-Teas, coffee and espresso by Griffin Creek Coffee Roasters and an organic, Mediterranean inspired menu with hummus and pita plates, falafel, dolmas and original recipes like our Greek Nachos; GF pita chips, veggies and spicy pinto hummus melted and topped with our lemon-tahini sauce. “We have a soup du jour, daily specials and fresh baked breads and muffins every day, so follow us on Facebook or stop by daily to see what’s cooking.”

The cafe is open with limited lunchtime hours of Monday – Friday, 10am-3pm. These limited hours allow TonTon’s to also serve as an event and workshop venue. “We have an outdoor patio, large dining space, and cozy lounge designed for the comfort of our customers and guests.”

Happening monthly at TonTon’s is the Nectar Parlor, an alcohol-free community music and art gathering where they serve unique herbal mocktail and elixir menu. Other monthly events include the Speak-Easy Rogue Valley competition-free poetry slam every last Sunday of the month (with the exception of this month being NYE) from 7-10pm. And coming in 2018 will be “Open Stage” on Thursday evenings hosted by local busker and performer Jon “Sage” Cloud.

Their commercial kitchen also rents to six other local businesses: Frisk Meals, Primordial Mountain, Raskall’s Jerk Shack, Shibumi, Vital Salts and Valhalla Organics.
