The Horses of the Equamore Foundation

Talent artist Karen Rycheck once helped create a multi-thousand-square-foot mosaic in St. Louis, MO that helped aid in the revitalization of the city's downtown.
On Friday, July 31 from 5-6 pm on the deck of Grotto Pizzeria she will unveil her latest creation: The Horses of the Equamore Foundation. There will also be live, original bluegrass/country music by Talent's own Sage Meadows to help celebrate public arts here in Talent.
After earning her BFA in sculpture in 1994, Karen went on to work as a full time mosaic artist at the notorious City Museum in St. Louis, MO.
When she moved west in 2004, she acquired a job with a small handmade tile company in Ashland, OR where she created a mosaic for the Oregon Zoo in Portland followed by the first publicly funded art commission for the City of Ashland in 2005.

South Beach Outfitters Surf Shop

Here in the Rogue Valley, surrounded by vast forests saturated with hiking and biking trails, world-class whitewater and fishing rivers, and a plentitude of mountain tops to ascend, it is oddly easy for the outdoor enthusiast to forget that the largest ocean in the world is but a two-hour drive away. And the adventure starts before you even get there. The beautiful drive along one of the nation's longest wild and scenic rivers (the Smith River) is punctuated by the tallest trees on earth located in Jedediah Smith Redwood State Park.
After a jaw-dropping hike through the redwoods, your quest to the ocean is only a few more minutes down the road to Crescent City, CA, home of South Beach Outfitters Surf Shop, conveniently located on the jetty at the north end South Beach. Easily accessible from Highway 101, the beach spands several miles to the south, and the sandy bottom creates a beach break that, when the conditions are right, offers excellent surfing for all levels.

Siskiyou Massage

Before moving to the Rogue Valley in 2004 from Colorado, Philip Whitmore, owner of Siskiyou Massage Clinic at 246 4th Street (across from the Peerless in Ashland), had already received more than twice the training as an orthopedic/medical massage practitioner than was required in Oregon.
"I had great teachers and I was very motivated to learn from them," Philip said. "I also had a busy massage practice in Boulder before I left. When I started my practice in Ashland, I feel like I had a bit of a leg up due to my experience in Colorado."
In 2010, Philip and his wife bought an old house on Gibson Street here in Talent. "We love the neighborhood and we love living in downtown Talent," he said. "Talent meets our needs and fits our lifestyles very nicely. It's peaceful like we like it. I was raised in Colorado, my wife in Michigan and we met in the funky town of Nederland, Colorado. Nederland is a great town but has a growing season of about a week and a half. That and the fact that you can get sunburned 360 days out of the year are two reasons we're here."

Grand Opening of CrossFit Potential

Adam Eggertsen moved to the Rogue Valley in 2000 to get a college degree in Health and Fitness, and now after two years as a worksite health promotion specialist, and ten years as a personal trainer and Yoga teacher, he and Mary Timoshenko have been running a crossfit training business out of their backyard, but the two will soon be opening CrossFit Potential in the new Dragonfly Plaza, Suite E at 806 South Pacific Highway here in Talent.
"We are extremely excited to move our growing gym into the Talent community," Adam said. "I have always wanted to run my own gym and I love CrossFit. It is an amazing way to stay in shape for whatever life throws at us."
The two are serious about their trade, not only do they talk the talk, but they walk the walk by exemplifying health and vitality through good living. "Mary's passion and exuberance are contagious, you can't help but being energized when you are in her presence," Adam said.
