For most people, a smile is a wonderful thing, but for Dr. Aron Kivel, it has been a lifelong passion. His dental practice, Soulsmile (1144 Iowa St., #A), is the culmination of a long career in dentistry, from Beverly Hills and the Bay Area to Ashland.
“My wife Ryann and I moved to Ashland from San Francisco two years ago,” Dr. Kivel said. “The practice was established over 40 years ago by Drs. James Benson and Thomas Dumont. We took over care of their patients beginning in June 2015. We relaunched the office under the name Soulsmile this past June.”
The office offers the full range of general dental services such as cosmetics, safe metal-filling replacements, and same-day crowns using digital technology.
“By following carefully considered systems and using digital diagnostic equipment and a digital workflow, we are able to keep a close eye on our patients’ oral health,” Dr. Kivel said. “We then share our findings with patients in a way that really keeps them in the loop and provide services that they want in an efficient manner that results in higher quality, lower turnaround times, and lower costs.”
Early in Dr. Kivel’s career, he was fortunate enough to join the famous dental office of reality TV’s Extreme Makeover and the Center for Aesthetic Dentistry in Beverly Hills.
“Those experiences laid a strong foundation of personalized and modern dental care for me,” he said. “I then lived and worked in Manhattan Beach, where I saw the virtue of delivering healthcare with a tight, highly-trained clinical team. I then wound up helping a family friend in San Francisco stabilize his dental practice after he suffered a stroke. I eventually moved back to the Bay Area near my family to assume ownership.”
And why the name “Soulsmile?”
“With my background in orthodontics, implants, cosmetics and other experiences, the name represents how much we want our patients to feel great about the smiles that come from deep down,” he said. “Patients seem to appreciate the sensible flow through our office when they’re interacting with each team member to discover their oral health goals.”
Soulsmile offers a depth of specialty services such as surgical implants, oral surgery generally, and root canal treatments to best support their patients and better collaborate with specialists when the need arises.
Aron and Ryann are both happy about the move to Ashland.
“We made the leap without a definite plan for the dental practice because we were so confident in calling Ashland home,” Ryann said. “It turned out that two of the most well-respected local dentists were nearing retirement. We got to know them, and it felt like the icing on the cake. Both Drs. Benson and Dumont did excellent work and were beloved by their patients. It is an honor to continue in their footsteps.”
