The Healing Art of Leslie Shanai Moyer
March 2017
Acupuncturist Leslie Shanai Moyer began her studies in the healing arts of China after receiving help from an acupuncturist for her own chronic health issue. She now offers the treatment to people throughout the Rogue Valley, helping them regain physical healing and emotional balance.
Leslie Shanai Acupuncture is located in a peaceful home environment at 725 Prim Street (above North Main). She offers private as well as group sessions of acupuncture plus additional therapies of cupping, therapeutic hot stone massage, the “thumper” (a tapotement style massage tool), and Chinese herbal medicine.
“My focus as a practitioner is to assist patients in returning to their full vitality and sense of well being,” Leslie says. “My personal gift is in pulse reading, which is one of the main tools of diagnosis utilized in acupuncture. For muscle-skeletal issues, my massage background is very helpful.”
All treatments include moxabustion, infrared heat lamp or bio-mat, which help boost the benefits of the treatment. “The effects are soothing and deeply relaxing,” says Leslie. “Moxabustion always feels great to the patient, but more importantly, serves to enhance and strengthen the effects of the acupuncture.”
Leslie began her career as a massage therapist. But after experiencing the healing effects of acupuncture, she decided to add the art to her repertoire of healing practices. She attended the Tai Hsuan Foundation College in Honolulu, which was founded by Lily Chang Hsiang, a 64th generation Taoist and Qi Kung master.
Leslie graduated from the Tai Hsuan school in 1996 and taught there for three years. In 2002, she returned to her home state of Oregon, settling in Ashland with her family. In 2007, she and her husband, Chad, co-founded People’s Choice Acupuncture, the first group style acupuncture center in the Rogue Valley.
Leslie is delighted to bring the healing gifts of an ancient tradition to the stresses and strains brought on by our contemporary lifestyle.
“Acupuncture comes from a very old tradition and when we receive care in this medicine, we also have the support of the lineage which has brought it into existence,” she said. “It’s like getting to be part of a very wise family that takes us under their wing and shares knowledge that is beyond words.”
Appointments with Leslie can be booked online via her webpage (leslieshanaimoyer.com), or by phone or text (541-951-9949). Packages purchased at People’s Choice Acupuncture Center before February 2016 will be honored. All insurance policies that cover acupuncture, including OHP, are accepted and no co-pay is charged.
