Individual Legal Attention at Rogue Law Firm PC
April 2018
For local attorney Richard D. Adams, it’s been a long and interesting road in his law career. He’s been practicing law at 600 NW 5th Street (5th and B) since October 1980 after graduating from law school at Willamette University and moving to Grants Pass with his wife Gwen.
“The law firm of Myrick, Coulter and Seagraves hired me,” Richard said. “I was born on the Nebraska plains, and the attraction of the Rogue Valley was the same for many transplants: the mountains, rivers and beauty.”
In 2014, after being a partner with other lawyers for over thirty years, Adams decided to strike out on his own and start a new firm with a new direction: Rogue Law Firm PC. The office is in the same location where Adams has been for the last 38 years.
“My former partners and I have a great relationship and continue to practice side by side in the offices we’ve been in for many years,” Richard said. “But I was attracted to the flexibility of going solo. I remain ‘of counsel’ to my former firm, which is now known as Davis, Freudenberg, Day & Galli.”
Not entirely solo. Adams enlisted the help of his son Tom, a lawyer in Portland who also represents people with personal injury claims, to join forces and run the firm’s Portland office.
“It’s a family affair,” Richard said. “Gwen keeps the books, while Tom and I stand up for our clients in their claims against insurance companies. We consider our Legal Assistant, Christy, to be part of the family too. Our other son, Ben, is a sous chef at the Side Door Café in Gleneden Beach, Oregon.”
Both Richard and Tom are active in the Oregon Trial Lawyers Association, and they were two of the principal editors of a Motor Vehicle Litigation Desk Book for trial lawyers in Oregon.
“Through that extensive process, we determined we could work together in the practice of law,” Richard said. “We represent people injured by wrongdoing and people injured in car crashes from bad driving or professional misconduct. We handle claims of elder abuse and sexual abuse, and help people concerning interference with estate planning or inheritance.”
With the latest digital technology and the Internet, the entire team is able to closely collaborate on all cases.
“We strive to provide individual attention to each client and case,” Richard said. “We are full-time lawyers in Grants Pass and Portland, and we do not have satellite offices the way some out-of-town firms practice.”
