LE PETIT CAFE AT EAST MAIN & WATER STREET
August 2025
When the outdoor restaurant space at the corner of East Main and Water Street became available last year, local restaurateurs Sierra Campbell and Dax Willard jumped at the opportunity.
“I grew up in a creperie in Rehoboth, Delaware, run by my French stepmother and that inspired me to start a food truck creperie here in Ashland in 2015 with the original crepe stoves,” Sierra said. “Together, Dax and I were thrilled about the possibilities for this location and the atmosphere. We saw the corner as a hub of downtown, a gathering space to enjoy and participate in our community. So on July 4, we opened Le Petit Café and Creperie.”
Sierra was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland. After traveling and college, she landed in Lake Tahoe where she started her family. She moved her family to Ashland in 2008. Dax was born and raised in Lake Tahoe and moved to Ashland in 2024.
“We did a modernization of the much-loved Water Street Cafe, continuing to hold its charm, character, and community connection,” Sierra said. “We have always loved to create beautiful spaces and enjoyed involving local craftsman Josh Courter, who did most of the project design. We used local reclaimed wood products from Anthology Woods. We had plant design by Ahimsa, and we flourish with flowers from local growers and the Siskiyou School garden. We have partnered with organic produce farmers and food producers, UR Organic jam, MamaTerra goat cheese, and more. We only serve what we would feed our family and love having a place to meet up and share time, space, and quality food. We are so proud of what we serve and all the relationships that have grown from it.”
Sierra and Dax admit they were inspired by other local restaurants and businesses. “We have learned and grown with their input and support,” Dax said. “Without the guidance and encouragement from those who have offered their experience and insight, we would not be where we are. We love being part of this industry.”
In addition to authentic French artisan crepes made with organic ingredients, the restaurant offers creative toasts, beautiful salads, and cheese boards featuring a variety of cheeses, crackers, picked veggies, compotes, dried fruits and local chocolates.
They also offer Oregon beers, French wines, mimosas, and other libations, including lemonade and a variety of teas and local coffee, all garnished with edible flowers.
“Our cafe is a place to enjoy quality nutritious and delicious food and drinks,” Sierra said. “The alfresco cafe has a welcoming and inclusive charm. The friendly and fun environment is a great spot to take in all Ashland has to offer. We are so proud of our products that highlight organic and regional foods.”
The space is ideal for small celebrations and gatherings. In fact, they have hosted baby showers, birthdays for all ages, family reunions, wedding brunches, local fundraisers and monthly organization meetings.
“We are happy to host and can accommodate a variety of scenarios,” Sierra said, “We also host wine pop ups, guest chefs, live music and other local offerings. It is truly a community hub. We are so grateful to have such a warm and welcoming environment to embrace.”
