It was 46 years ago that the first roots of Weisinger Family Winery (3150 Siskiyou Boulevard) were planted by John Weisinger.  A Texas native, John had purchased a small farm in Ashland with the dream of making wine. With the help of his three young children—Eric, Annie, and Sarah—he planted his first acre of Gewürztraminer, and the family spent ten seasons tending the young vines. 

It’s been seven years since we last checked in with Bobby Castillo of Castillo Window Cleaning. He’s still providing expert service on a variety of home-related chores, including his bread and butter—window cleaning. And to cover more ground, he has enlisted the aid of his sister, making the business truly a family affair.

At Painter Bees, owner Molly Beckingham has a background in fine art and ceramics, including stints as a scenic artist painting in theme parks and the movie industry. She also worked at Walt Disney Imagineering from 1993-2006 as a Senior Show Artisan painting and supervising the painting of models, color boards, show sets, murals, props, and faux finishing for Disney’s theme parks.

Here’s a sobering fun fact I read on Wikipedia: “Bone loss starts after peak bone mass is reached around age 30. After age 30, bone breakdown outpaces bone formation and bone loss often accelerates.” Well, no wonder I’m no longer able to hit 275-yard drives on the golf course … my bones ain’t cooperating.

Ashland resident Genie Long and her family pooled their resources and recently opened a combination gift store and mail center, Hopper’s Landing Mail & Mercantile, at 1409 Highway 99, where the Paradise Supply used to be, next to Anderson Auto Body (Paradise Supply is now located in a warehouse behind the building).
