CONCIERGE PRACTICE AT SUNSTONE PRIMARY CARE
When it comes to health care in this country, concierge practices just might be the wave of the future. Sunstone Primary Care PC at 540 Catalina Drive in Ashland is one of those, and co-owner Elisabeth “Issa” Sturm, DNP, FNP, helped explain how it works.
“Sunstone Primary Care PC is a Concierge Medical Practice,” Issa said. “Patients pay a monthly membership fee which is typically not covered by insurance. We then bill the patient’s insurance for office visits and telemedicine. Concierge practices offer longer, more frequent appointments and direct access to your personal provider and healthcare team. Taking care of patients is multifaceted and complex. In our current healthcare climate, many medical decisions are dictated by a patient’s health insurance or by healthcare administration. Here at Sunstone Primary Care, we want to create a better option for this community, where relationships are the foundation of care, and health care decisions are made in an active partnership between patient and the healthcare provider.”
The clinic opened in March 2021, and Issa joined the team in October of this year. They moved the office to Ashland in November. The co-owners include E. Clark Cullen, MD, and Katie Broughton, CMA/Office Manager. Dr. Cullen’s practice is full and not accepting new patients, but Issa is open and ready for business.
“I have a deep passion for serving my community and providing excellent medical care,” Issa said. “I have extensive experience in primary care, as well as specialty work-ups, including cardiology, dermatology, endocrinology, women’s health and men’s health.”
Issa has been in Oregon since 2005. She is originally from Atlanta, Georgia, and fell in love with the people and natural beauty of Oregon in 2004 during a visit. She moved out west a year later and has been part of the Ashland community since 2006. She left Ashland for a few years to pursue higher education and specialty training at Oregon Health Science University in Portland and Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN.
“New patients can expect a highly personalized service,” Issa said. “We take the time to get to know you and review your health care records. We formulate personalized plans based on your health care goals and needs. We want to help you achieve vitality and wellness in your life. What are your goals and how can we help you achieve them? We have a phenomenal staff that will walk you through the complexities of the healthcare system and provide you with compassionate care at every turn.”
Issa offers full spectrum primary care, including annual physicals, wellness visits, skin cancer screening and nutritional consultation. When necessary, she places referrals to specialists and consults with OHSU to ensure you’re receiving the most up-to-date recommendations. She goes that extra mile to make sure you feel well cared for. She also focuses on ways to improve your health that don’t require taking more medicine. This may include nutritional or lifestyle interventions, goal setting and exercise. Sunstone is equipped for patient communication through phone, text, email and patient portal, making health care more accessible for you.
