Eleven Brings Basque to the Rogue Valley

March 2016

Eleven Basque RestaurantIf you are looking for a late winter getaway but can’t afford the time or expense of travel right now, do the next best thing: book a table at Eleven.

The dishes prepared by Chef Kevin Broadie at the restaurant, located at 11 First Street, will transport you to the exquisite Basque region of northern Spain—a region known for fresh, delicious, flavorful cooking.
Kevin, who owns the restaurant with his wife, Andi, chose the Basque-inspired menu because of their love for the region and its exotic, inspired flavors—and the fact that much of what he needs to create his dishes can be found right here at home.

“The divine flavors and accents of our dishes align perfectly with what grows here in the Valley,” he says. “We are lucky to have incredible tomatoes, peppers, garlic, cheeses, and proteins all produced by local, small growers or producers. Frankly, it’s a chef’s dream.”

Kevin, it seems, was born to be a chef. A graduate of Ashland High School, he started working in area restaurants as a young teenager. After moving to Eugene to attend the University of Oregon, he migrated to Seattle as he learned his trade. It was in Seattle working in the restaurant business that he met Andi

“I had the great good luck to work under some fantastic chefs,” he says, “but I was drawn back to the Valley two years ago, and opened Eleven. I’m extremely happy to be here.”

The dishes at Eleven, Kevin says, “lean heavily toward the Spanish side of Basque country. They are all our original creations but stay true to the flavors and techniques of the Basque region. At breakfast and lunch we venture over the Pyrenees a bit more and explore the French-influenced palate of that area of the Basque country.”
At Eleven, dishes are served as small plates family style, so diners can taste and share a variety of dishes and flavors. The menu changes regularly to reflect what is fresh and seasonal.  All the wines served are from Southern Oregon.

“There is simply no reason to look any further,” Kevin says. “Our microclimates and winemakers combine to produce delightful and accomplished wines.”
So next time you get a bout of wanderlust, head over to Eleven First Street, where Andi and Kevin Broadie promise to make your journey worthwhile. “Our joy is in providing a moment in life that is just a bit better,” Kevin said.
