HOPPER’S LANDING OPENS IN ASHLAND

December 2023

Hoppers LandingAshland resident Genie Long and her family pooled their resources and recently opened a combination gift store and mail center, Hopper’s Landing Mail & Mercantile, at 1409 Highway 99, where the Paradise Supply used to be, next to Anderson Auto Body (Paradise Supply is now located in a warehouse behind the building).

The front of the store features a mercantile shop, offering unique one-of-a-kind gifts, from vintage, antique, refurbished, and salvaged items to furniture and hand-crafted wares, alongside a mix of new gifts, cards, stickers, candles, bath and body products, bird feeders, wind chimes, and more.
In the back will be a full-service shipping center. Currently United States Post Office (USPS) shipping is available, and after jumping through some hoops they will soon have FedEx and UPS (Genie predicts that will likely happen in a couple of months). There are also postal mailboxes for rent, a notary on staff, packing supplies, and the usual copy machines and fax.

Genie is a lifelong Oregonian, born in Coos Bay and living in Ashland for over 40 years.

“I had a couple of sisters living in Ashland and I came for a visit in 1982 just out of high school and decided to put down roots and stay a while,” she said. “I appreciate the beauty found in the mountains, lakes and rivers, along with the wildflowers, wildlife and so much more. In my spare time, I enjoy hiking, photography, antiquing, gardening and cooking. Oh, and coffee. Yes, coffee, lattes, mochas—basically any form of caffeine.”

Genie has been involved with hospice for 17 years, has owned and operated a karate school, volunteered at the local animal shelter, and has been a 4-H leader. She now works as a Realtor at Gateway Real Estate.

“It’s my belief that it’s easy to work in a field when you have a genuine passion for it,” she said. “Real estate has always been a passion of mind, in particular in Ashland and the surrounding areas. I enjoy finding creative solutions to some of the most challenging situations. As real estate agents, we forge quick and close connections with our clients.”

Genie has also been in retail off and on her whole life.

“For the last 15 years, I’ve dreamed of having a mail store and a mercantile/gift store combo,” she said. “We bring in new furniture and gifts weekly, so there’s always a fresh inventory. We play great background music in a relaxing environment so that everyone can take a moment to slow down and step back in time.

The friendly, helpful staff, which features Genie’s three children (Timothy, Salina and Rihana) is there to greet you, and there is plenty of great parking.
