Making That Move as Painless as Possible

Southern OR Relocation ServicesA couple of years ago my wife’s family moved their elderly parents from Gold Beach to Madras, and it was a stressful time for everyone. What they needed was someone like Linda Farland, a Rogue Valley resident who opened Southern Oregon Relocation Specialists in 2013.

“When we were helping my mom get ready to move to the Manor in Medford, after living in her home for 30+ years, I saw the emotional side of moving a senior and downsizing all those years of memories,” Linda said. “My son Nick had just gotten out of the Navy and wanted to get involved in a business together, so we felt there was a need in this valley for some type of senior moving assistance. Actually, we do moving assistance for everyone, not just seniors.”

Linda and Nick did some research, got their business license, enlisted the aid of Linda’s other son Matt, joined the National Association of Senior Move Managers, and were ready for business.

“We are a ‘move management’ company and not a moving company, per se,” Linda said. “We assist people in packing, downsizing, floor plans, moving, and unpacking. We make our clients’ beds so that they are ready to stay in their new homes on the first night. We also assist with the selling of items, either through an estate sale of some type of consignment or online sales.”

The Farlands work overtime to make sure every move runs as smooth as possible. “If someone is moving out of their home and that home needs some type of work done prior to going on the market, we assist with that,” Linda  said. “I have a list of providers from movers, cleaning people, window washers, painters, handymen, carpet cleaners … anything they need done. When we’re finished with the home, the Realtor can walk in and put his or her sign up.”

Linda is a Rogue Valley native and a 3rd generation Oregonian, born and raised in Phoenix on a family farm. She has a background in business development and sales and helped build off-premise catering companies for large restaurateurs in Chicago and Palo Alto.

S.O. Relocation Specialists is insured and bonded, something everyone should look for when allowing others into your home.

“We make sure our clients are safe, that they sit down, rest and eat,” Linda said. “We want to ensure that the transition is as easy as possible. The safety of our clients and their home is our first priority.”
