High Quality, Compassionate Care at GP Surgery Center

When the Grants Pass Surgery Center (GPSC) opened in 1998 at 1601 NW Hawthorne Avenue, it was the result of several local surgeons pooling their resources to better serve the community. The list of owners now includes five general surgeons (Drs. Alexis Alexandridis, Mark Deatherage, Corey Fawcett, David Oehling and Brett Shulte); four orthopedic surgeons (Drs. James Van Horne, Robert Bents, James Dowd, and Bruce Perry); three podiatric surgeons (John Castle, DPM, Monika Froehlich, DPM, and Mark Simchuck, DPM); a dental surgeon (John Waschak, DDS); an ENT surgeon (Daniel Fear, MD); and one primary care physician (Brian Mateja, DO). Most have lived, and practiced medicine, in Southern Oregon for decades. The CEO is Steve Loftesnes.
"Our doctors, nurses, techs and staff are amazing," Loftesnes said. "I have never worked anywhere where I've received the amount of praise and high level of appreciation that I get here about our staff. They genuinely care about and take care of their patients ... and it shows."

Jo. Co. Public Health and AllCare Form Partnership

After being understaffed at the clinic for years, Josephine County Public Health, located at 715 NW Dimmick, has entered into a partnership with AllCare to improve services to residents of Josephine County. Jenny Kowalczyk, a women's health nurse practitioner was hired by AllCare, along with two registered nurses, to deliver healthcare services at Public Health.
Kowalczyk was hired in March after an extensive interviewing process in which both AllCare and Public Health "were in awe" of her qualifications and zest for the job. She "impressed the group not only with her excellent IT skills and easy-going personality but her strong desire to care for people, not just resolve a medical problem."
After a phone interview, Kowalczyk came out from Wisconsin, thought the area was breathtaking, and accepted the job. She has been the catalyst in updating the clinic and offering quality services efficiently.

Grants Pass Pharmacy—More Than Just a Pharmacy

As a downtown institution, nothing beats Grants Pass Pharmacy, located at 414 SW 6th Street. It has been at that location since 1933,and has been a popular downtown gathering place for many generations of local residents. It's not just a pharmacy; inside you'll find a cool, old-fashioned soda fountain and deli, which is a big hit for downtown shoppers, and a unique gift department, offering everything from Snow Babies and Department 56 Villages to Crabtree & Evelyn and Caswell-Massey.
Owners Mike and Bonnie Maffett both grew up in Grants Pass and returned in 1973 to buy the pharmacy. Their daughter, Michele Belcher, returned to Grants Pass in 1993 with her husband Ken (and a degree in pharmacy) to work with her parents in the pharmacy. She is now at the helm as head pharmacist and co-owner, in addition to her duties as upcoming President of the National Community Pharmacists Association, an organization for independent pharmacies.

Great Service at
Oregon Mattress Authority

It was just in January of this year that entrepreneurs Nik Martin, Brandon Glasscock and Danielle Ryan decided to pool their talents by opening their own business, Oregon Mattress Authority, located at 424 SW 6th Street.
All three were born and raised in the Rogue Valley and are local high school graduates. Nik has 18+ years in the furniture/mattress industry. Brandon has an extensive background in sales and shipping/receiving. And Danielle has worked in sales, in addition to a recent three-year career in the banking industry. Together, they figured they could make the business work.
Nik, who also attended sleep school, said the store is service oriented.
