BIG NEWS FROM ACUPUNCTURE AT RIVERSIDE
May 2025
Ellen Leonard at Acupuncture at Riverside (957 SE 7th) is excited about a new technique she has added to her repertoire.
“It’s called Electro Acu-puncture Medicine that works with the nervous system to actually heal injuries and diseases,” Ellen said. “It is especially effective for nerves and organs that have been beyond help, especially long-term issues like arthritic spines or folks with neuropathy. The founder of the technique, Dr. Jeremy Steiner, is an MD, a doctor of oriental medicine, with a PhD in Biomedical Science. His motto is that he only takes the hard stuff. I am over the moon excited about the potential of what this will do for my patients.”
For those committing to the entire protocol, the results can be dramatic.
“It involves 30 20-minute treatments in two months, so it’s 3 times/week for the first month and twice a week for the second,” Ellen said. “If they don’t have 20 treatments worth of insurance, that could be costly, but I’m working hard to keep the treatments as affordable as possible. We accept many types of insurance, including VA and Allcare.”
Ellen comes from a family of doctors and dentists but wanted a form of healthcare that was more holistic and took into account the emotional body as well as the physical.
“Acupuncture seemed to fill the bill, so I went through the New England School of Acupuncture’s four-year Master’s program in Boston,” she said. “One of my instructors and mentors invited me to open a holistic healing clinic with him in Cambridge, which I helped run for about four years after graduation. But then my yearning for the west coast took over, and I moved to Grants Pass and opened my own clinic in 2005. When I made the decision to move to Grants Pass, I packed my worldly belongings into a 29-foot U-Haul, dragging my car behind, and drove from Boston. I cried the whole way from Klamath Falls to here, marveling that I live here now, I live here now. I’ve never looked back.”
Acupuncture at Riverside treats all kinds of pain, both physical and emotional, in a safe and caring environment. With 25 years of experience, Ellen has created a place of peace and healing.
“I am trained in Japanese style acupuncture which uses smaller (they are the size of your hair) and fewer needles than regular Chinese acupuncture, for a deeply relaxing and painless experience. Magnets are used instead of needles on those folks with very delicate sensitivities and children. We treat every patient with respect and kindness, no matter their circumstance or history. Acupuncture is not a one and done kind of treatment; it’s an actual healing that takes time, so frequency and consistency are imperative at first. Getting people out of pain and giving them their lives back is what gets me out of bed in the morning. If I could afford to do it for free, I would!”
