‘Tis the Season at H&R Block
The first graduated income tax hit the American scene during the Civil War, and since then the tax code in this country has grown to 73,954 pages.
Not many of us have time to sit down in front of the fire with a good glass of Chadonnay and read all that, and that's where H&R Block comes in handy. The staff consists of 15 licensed tax preparers and three licensed tax consultants and enrolled agents, and they're there to make your life easier.
Franchisee Dennis Taylor had a background in the financial services field and decided to make the change into accounting and tax preparation when the economy switched in 2007/2008.
"The office has been here since 1955, but when I moved to the Rogue Valley in 2010 to be closer to family, having a chance to partner with H&R Block and purchase the franchise here was an easy decision," Dennis said. "Our staff has well over 100 years of combined experience. All of our preparers complete in excess of 30 hours of Continuing Education a year to keep up with all the tax law changes."
In addition to tax preparation and consulting, the office provides bookkeeping and payroll services to many small businesses in the area.
"We can handle any type of return or situation," Dennis said. "H&R Block prepares approximately one out of every seven returns nationally. We are able to access that knowledge through things like our Tax Institute to get answers to any tax problem. So you get local service with national support."
The services include a Maximum Refund Guarantee and an Audit Assistance just in case, gasp, you get a call from the IRS. The office is also flexible with payment, either by cash, credit card or check, as well as having the payment withheld from your refund.
"Something new that is affecting everyone this year is the Affordable Care Act," Dennis said. "It is largely enforced through the tax-filing process. Many taxpayers will be eligible for subsidies, and those amounts are set and verified through the tax-filing process. To be eligible, you must file a tax return whether you have worked the prior year or not. Those who do not have insurance will have to pay a penalty, which is also enforced through the tax filing."
H&R Block can guide customers through the health care process, including offering enrollment services through their partnership with GoHealth LLC at www.helpth.com.
The offices are located at 1867 Williams Hwy, Ste 102, and 330 NE Agness. The phone numbers are 541-472-1299 and 541-472-1345.
Celebrating Ten Years at Ambiance
Amelia Beeman and Sylvia Lee will be celebrating the 10-year anniversary of Ambiance Skin Care & Massage (2900 NW Vine, Suite A) this year. Amelia has lived in the Rogue Valley most of her life, as has her mother Sylvia.
"We have always been interested in good health, and we find it a blessing to promote healthy living to others," Amelia said. "It makes us feel so good to be able to help others feel better and look better."
Amelia is a graduate of the Massage Therapy Program and Lane Community College, and both she and Sylvia are graduates of the Oregon Institute of Aesthetics. Amelia offers Swedish, deep tissue, pregnancy, and hot and cold La Stone therapy massage.
Joining the team at Ambiance Skin Care & Massage last year was Licensed Massage Therapist Jason M. Kretzer. Jason has lived in the Rogue Valley since 2007, and worked for nearly six years with a chiropractor.
"My focus is primarily medical massage—treating specific issues involving neck/whiplash injury, TMJ dysfunction, and other musculoskeletal problems throughout the back and neck," Jason said. "As part of helping people to heal and manage their pain, I take time to listen to them, their medical concerns, life stresses and so on. This is a very important part of the healing process."
In addition to massage, Ambiance offers customized facials, makeup applications, and facial peels and waxing. Massage/Facial packages are available. Most vehicle accident insurance is accepted.
"Our facility is very warm and inviting," Amelia said. "We do our best to make all our clients feel at home."
