Yoga and More at Sundance Healing Arts
One of the keystones of good health is exercise, and at Sundance Healing Arts (220 SE H), owner Sarah Walendy offers many paths for participants to improve mind, body, and spirit.
"I felt discouraged by the disconnect often seen in traditional gym settings, where the focus of fitness and dance is aesthetics," Sarah said. "The concept of pushing through pain to get result seemed dysfunctional."
Movement has been a source of light for Sarah throughout her life. She studied ballet at an early age and adulthood.
"Moving into fitness was an easy transition for me, and Pilates connected all the dots of postural wellness and optimal kinesthetic function," she said. "But after teaching Pilates in a gym environment for a long time, I began to realize there is more to fitness than well-toned muscles. I shifted my focus to mind and body."
The shift included both massage and yoga. "Becoming a massage therapist gave me the knowledge and skills to approach wellness from not only the movement angle but the tissue angle, also," Sarah said. "When I discovered yoga 17 years ago, I was blown away by the immediate renewal and mental clarity from Asana practice. I developed a deeper interest to learn about different styles and lineages of yoga."
Sarah has taught yoga and practiced with many different teachers, completing her teacher training in 2009 with Ganga White and Tracy Rich of the White Lotus Foundation.
Sundance Healing Arts is a yoga studio that also offers private Pilates, massage, personal training and dance. The instructors are Laura Satterfield, Shanti Chagnon, Denise Elzea, Denise Bales, Paula Edwards and Sarah Walendy. The yoga styles include Vinyasa, Power, Kripalu, Nidra and Hatha, with influences of Thai Chi, Dance and Ashtanga.
"The emphasis is on a space with multiple styles, teachers, and modalities to allow self-growth, self reflection, appropriate challenge, and injury rehabilitation without judgment," Sarah said. "We come into so much chaos and static on a daily basis that we need to have a practice to relieve that unproductive energy. When I step onto my mat, I commit to letting go of unproductive energy and get to return to myself. This in turn flows into every aspect of life."

Professional Waxing at Studio Wax
At Studio Wax (1960 SW G Street, inside Premier Fitness), owner Raynee Britton operates a specialty waxing salon "committed to offering her clients a comfortable facial and body waxing experience."
"Aging well and taking care of myself has always been important to me," said Raynee, who moved to the Rogue Valley from southern California in 1996. "Proper skin care is an essential part of that. And I absolutely love waxing! I've spent a lot of time educating myself on proper waxing techniques, and I pride myself on offering my clients a thorough and comfortable wax service."
Because of that, a high percentage of Raynee's business is from repeat customers and referrals.
"As the only specialty waxing studio in Grants Pass, I'm able to offer a better and more affordable service," Raynee said. "I offer discounts for frequent and multi-area waxers. I have extensive education in a variety of waxing products and techniques, and I am constantly keeping up with the industry by continuing my education. I wax all day, I love it, and I'm good at it."
According to Raynee, being a good waxer doesn't just require great products and skills. "I really care about my clients," she said. "I'm professional and respect my clients' needs and help them feel comfortable. I love meeting new people and helping them look and feel their best while making healthy lifestyle changes. I care deeply for all of my clients and have made many friends along the way."
