New Italian Restauraunt Opens in Grants Pass
The Wehab family’s restaurants are practically an institution in Grants Pass. Ironically, the very first restaurant they opened in 1978 was called Giannelli’s, which reopened just six months ago.
“My parents had been in the restaurant business their entire lives until they retired,” said Sherry Wehab, the owner of the new, improved Giannelli’s A Taste of Italy, located at 211 NE A Street. “That first restaurant was changed to PB’s Cheap Food, and then a couple of years later they opened The Woodshed. They eventually sold both of those and opened Balboa’s Pizza & Deli at two locations. Not long after that they opened Abu’s Oasis Deli on NW 6th Street and sold that to my brother and his wife. So I have essentially been in the restaurant business for over forty years.”
The food, which features a number of classic Italian dishes like spaghetti, ravioli and lasagna, is all made from scratch.
“Everything is made here,” Sherry said. “I cook my marinara sauce for six hours and make alfredo from scratch. I love to cook and even make fresh pizza dough every day.”
The restaurant is small with a down-home feeling. For lunch one can choose from a huge selection of hot and cold sandwiches, from turkey, roast beef and ham, to Meatball & Mozzarella, Italian Sausage, Steak & Cheese, and even a much-talked-about Reuben.
Some of their other specialties include calzones, strombolis, and pizzas. Sherry and her staff encourage you to be creative with your pizza, as you can choose from 17 different ingredients. There are also plenty of appetizers, salads, and soups, and you will definitely not be going away hungry. They also serve beer and wine.

“I went in tonight and placed a to-go order. I have to say the food was amazing. I ordered a few different items so my family could try a few different things. Everything we got was so delicious. We will definitely be back.”
Giannelli’s also has a banquet room, and they do catering. They’re open Tue-Sat and closed Sundays and Mondays. For more info, the phone number is 541-916-8004. The web page is giannellisatasteofitaly, and you can see them on Facebook.
