WOMEN’S HEALTH CENTER CELEBRATES 25 YEARS

October 2023

Womens Health Center of Southern OregonIt’s been 25 years since Women’s Health Center of Southern Oregon was established “to provide the best in comprehensive specialty health care for women in Southern Oregon.” WHCOSO opened its doors in Grants Pass in the fall of 1998 as a small private practice with two physicians and an administrator. It continues to be a privately owned practice and has grown with the community.
It now employs a team that includes seven physician/surgeons, as well as advanced practice providers, certified ultrasound technicians, an experienced administration team and a highly trained support staff. In January of this year, a second clinic was opened in Ashland. New patients are always welcome at both locations.

From gynecologic services to reproductive health, prenatal care to menopause management, WHCOSO offers a comprehensive range of services that address every stage of a woman’s life and remains at the forefront of delivering the highest-quality medical care. Over their 25 years in business, physicians at Women’s Health Center have guided the delivery of thousands of Southern Oregon residents.

“I have patients whom I’ve seen for over 20 years,” said Dr. Tamara Medley. “I’ve delivered their children and now I am caring for their pregnant granddaughters. Caring for multi-generations of the same family is really a special bond between our practice and the way we care for our community.”
In addition to caring for patients, Women’s Health Center has been deeply involved in Southern Oregon organizations, through charitable donations, fundraisers, and education. From AAUW to Women’s Crisis Support Center and Wildlife Images, WHCOSO has participated as a donor and sponsor, supporting annual programs such as the Nutcracker Ballet, Youth Soccer and the KidZone Community Foundation’s Kid’s Dash, and continues to teach numerous health education programs in local high schools.

“Our tagline, ‘We listen to you, we care about you, we care for you,’ is the heart of what we do,” said Lisa Redfern, Executive Director and one of the three founding employees. “All of our staff, whether a scheduler or a physician, is a skilled listener who cares deeply about each patient’s needs. Gynecology and obstetrics are sensitive topics for a lot of patients, and we want to make sure we consistently provide a comfortable, safe, and non-judgmental environment where each person is free to discuss their needs and know they are listened to.”

As Women’s Health Center celebrates this remarkable 25-year journey, they express their deep appreciation and gratitude to all their patients who have entrusted them with their care. As well, they thank all of the employees and supporters who have played an integral role in shaping their practice. While the providers and staff may have changed over the years, what has never changed is their “commitment to helping each woman achieve her best self.”
