A RESTORATIVE EXPERIENCE WITH NEUROFEEDBACK
According to Beka Chandler and Dan Altman of Southern Oregon Neurofeedback, NeurOptimal neurofeedback is a relaxing, restorative experience. “We offer NeurOptimal neurofeedback sessions for clients, and the sessions are affordable, relaxing, and enjoyable,” Beka said. “People with a wide variety of issues find relief and change from the sessions. It can also enhance other healing or mental wellness modalities. Everything that we do, be it mental, physical, emotional, or spiritual, we run through our brain. We’ve had people come to improve performance, memory, social connection skills, anything you can think of. It’s fun to hear what people experience. Sometimes people who have done decades of one therapy can have wonderful results with the addition of NeurOptimal.”
Beka grew up and started her practice in Alaska, then moved to Southern Oregon in 2008 for her daughter’s education and to have access to more types of healing modalities. Dan moved to Ashland in 2005 after living in Seattle and working at Microsoft. He loves Southern Oregon and the wonderful community of people here. Both have had personal experiences with Neurofeedback.
“I originally discovered Neuro-feedback while living on Maui in 2010,” Dan said. “I suffered from low moods and was looking for something to help me feel more peace, well-being and happiness in life. After my first few sessions, I felt a huge shift; I felt peace. I hadn’t realized how most of my life there was an underlying feeling that something was wrong, and I needed to fix it. This led me on a spiritual and personal growth path for many years.”
Beka, who is a therapist, started using Neurofeedback on clients who weren’t progressing from injuries and other issues. “I always loved working with people to help them clear trauma and relax their nervous system,” she said. “I started to see people break through issues with Neurofeedback that had tried everything else. This makes a lot of sense because everything we do in life runs through our brain and nervous system.”
Dan teaches classes in the Three Principles of Sydney Banks and is a certified Transformational Life Coach. He loves to write and is working on a memoir entitled “Microsoft to Maui: How I Found Peace That Money Couldn’t Buy.” In the past, Beka was voted as one of Ashland’s favorite therapists when she did body work with clients.
“We work with clients of all ages,” Beka said. “Young children with ADHD find neurofeedback a great alternative to medication. The American Society of Pediatric Physicians recognizes neurofeedback as a tier one treatment. Adults with focus, learning or memory issues often get benefit from neurofeedback.”
Dan agreed. “NeurOptimal helps to quiet the fight-or-flight response, so people with anxiety or sleeping issues often find relief,” he said. “Clients also experience life ‘in the zone’ more of the time, when life is flowing effortlessly and enjoyably. The client’s experience changes from the inside out.”
Beka runs most of the sessions. “At the beginning of the session, we see if the client wants to check in and then talk about what they’ve been experiencing and what they would like to get from their neurofeedback journey,” she said. “Sometimes people like to be listened to and have space held, and other times they’re ready to just get hooked up. Neurofeedback is very relaxing and helps the brain and nervous system optimize itself. Some people find neurofeedback helpful before or after a stressful experience in their life. People sometimes return for tune-up sessions when needed.”
The center offers NeurOptimal neurofeedback sessions as well as the opportunity to experience the Bemer PEMF technology. Dan is available for 3 Principles Coaching.Beka was trained in Ireland in an energetic healing called “Rising Star” and offers sessions.
“Neurofeedback is not therapy, so clients are not required to share about their issues,” Beka said. “Neurofeedback supports the brain to experience more creativity, flexibility, and resilience so clients will often have insights and inner guidance from the sessions.”
