Family Comes First at Siskiyou Pediatric Clinic

January 2017

The family unit is crucial to any functional society, and at Siskiyou Pediatric Clinic (700 SW Ramsey Avenue, Suite 204), their mission is “to provide excellent pediatric medical care to the children of Grants Pass and the surrounding areas” and “to provide a family-friendly, relaxed and comfortable atmosphere for patients, families, and employees.”
That’s a tall order, but the three physician owners (Steven Marshak, DO, Katherine Johnston, MD, and Salma Yahya, MD) along with the other providers (Whitney Stewart, MD, Haifa Jaedi, MD, and Lori Lappe, CPNP) have it covered. All of the doctors are Board Certified in Pediatric Medicine and Fellows of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
As a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, Dr. Marshak approaches medicine from a holistic approach, looking at the whole person and how an illness that is specific to one area can affect the entire patient. He received his medical training at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn and moved to Grants Pass in 2003.
Dr. Johnston received her medical training at the University of California San Diego School of Medicine and moved to Grants Pass in 2009, while Dr. Yahya did her residency in pediatrics at the Geisinger Health System and moved to Grants Pass in 2013.
“We all moved here directly after completing our residency programs because we were looking for a small town, family atmosphere in which to work and raise our own families,” Dr. Marshak said. “All of us love children, so it was inevitable that we all chose pediatrics for our medical careers.”
Siskiyou Pediatric Clinic provides comprehensive medical care, including clinical services and hospital services, to pediatric patients from birth to age 18. They utilize the most up-to-date medical knowledge to provide excellent medical care for children with acute and chronic diseases. All school children get screened for vision and hearing problems, which can have an impact on their ability to succeed in school.
“We strive to foster a caring partnership with families,” Dr. Johnston said. “Our goal is to provide a ‘medical home’ to our patients, where our families can expect compassionate and comprehensive pediatric care with professional coordination of care between our providers and community specialists and services.”
The Clinic was one of the first pediatric practices in the state of Oregon to earn the Oregon Health Authority’s highest rank as a Tier 3 Patient Centered Primary Care Home.
“We offer parents tips on how to talk to their kids about sex, as well as alcohol and drug abuse,” Dr. Yahya said. “Our goal is to partner with parents to help kids stay kids, and give them the tools to grow up to be healthy, happy, productive adults.”
