New Consignment Shop in Town: Hello GoodBuy

October 2016

Hello GoodBuy“Man, woman or child, will find delight here.”

Those words, from the Hello GoodBuy website, sum up what you can expect when you visit this charming, upscale consignment shop located in the historic Parker house at 2895 Highway 66 in south Ashland. The store is filled with lovingly curated, one-of-a-kind, high-quality items—from clothing to pianos.

“A family can come to Hello GoodBuy and get something for everyone,” says Crystal Sosa, who with Austin Van Campen opened the shop in January of this year. “We have things for the frugal as well as for the fancy.”

Crystal came to Ashland from Santa Fe, where she worked on and off at the consignment store, Double Take, for 15 years. In 2004 she came to Ashland to take a course, spent two years here and fell in love with the town. “I always said if I ever had a child, I wanted to raise him in Ashland,” she said. “So in 2009 when my son, Trent, was born in Santa Fe, I began to make plans to come back.”
She did that in the summer of 2015. “I didn’t know what I was going to do yet for work, but I already had a supportive group of friends helping me with the transition to Ashland,” she said.

Those friends introduced her to Austin Van Campen, who had moved here in 1999 to raise his own twin sons. Austin had owned several media and marketing companies in Ashland, and he bought the Parker house in 2015. He and Crystal were an ideal match.

“When Austin had the idea to open up our own consignment store, I realized we had all the tools to succeed at this,” she says. “I have extensive knowledge of the consignment business, from the books to the floor.  Austin has extensive knowledge in antiques, marketing, and building. Together we built a store that is a fun mix of vintage and modern for the whole family, modeled somewhat after the store I worked at in Santa Fe.”

It is a mix of the couple’s own finds, local handmade items, and consignments from the community. Austin created their website and Facebook page, which features  his photography and their “combined humor.” The store even has a piano gallery because Austin rebuilds and tunes pianos.

The shop is open from 10am to 5pm Wednesday through Sunday. Austin and Crystal will come to homes to evaluate large estate consignments, and there is plenty of parking at the store for easy loading and unloading.
