Piccadilly Cycles Has the Bike for You

April 2017

1 ash apr17 piccIt’s that time of year. The sun has returned to the Valley, along with balmy temperatures and the call to hit the trails. Whether your idea of a perfect day is jumping on a bike for a long ride, or if you’ve only dreamed of doing so, your next stop should be Piccadilly Cycles at the corner of 4th and A Streets.

Piccadilly sells and services all types of bikes—traditional and electric-assist—for people of all ages. “Our job is to help people of any age and any fitness level make riding a bike part of their everyday life,” said Gus Janeway, co-owner of Piccadilly with Blaine Pickett. “Everyone faces a transportation choice when they step out their door; we work to open up their options.”
Those options include a carefully researched, hand-picked line of the best bike brands (they carry 12 brands), accessories, parts, clothing, helmets, and more.

“We know that bikes can be intimidating, so we try hard to provide honest, clear information for riders of all ages and experience levels,” says Blaine.

Blaine and Gus are especially proud that their customers include people of all ages and experience levels.

“Sometimes people haven’t been on a bike for years, even decades, and it’s a whole lot of fun to get them back in the saddle, so to speak, and see how much fun they are having,” Gus said. “That’s why we sell both traditional and electric-assist bikes. Each has its use, and as much as we are excited about how electric bikes can make a big change in a person’s life, we also see how much pure enjoyment any kind of bike can bring.”

Celebrating its fourth year in business, Piccadilly thrives by bringing happiness to people. The name of the store was a family project, says Gus.

“We got our families together and brainstormed until we had it,” he said. “It’s a name that draws a connection with a traditional transportation hub (London’s Piccadilly Circus) and also means ‘to choose well.’ It embraces the feel of our bike shop, and most importantly makes you smile to say it.”

Because the store is located right on the Ashland bike path, it’s easy to test ride any of Piccadilly’s bikes. “If you want to put a bike through its paces, there is no shortage of steep hills to test them on,” Blaine said. “We also plan to offer rentals of some electric bikes this spring. I can’t think of a single person who hasn’t come back smiling after test riding an electric bike, especially up a really steep hill. It’s a great feeling.”
