Wicklund Veterinary Care Business Update

July 2016

Wicklund Veterinary CareStarting a new business requires some degree of a leap of faith and lots of hard work, and Dr. Jennifer Wicklund has succeeded in both aspects with nearly three years under her belt at the prospering helm of Wicklund Veterinary Care.

Wicklund Veterinary Care, established in December 2013, is a full-service veterinary practice located within Alder Creek Veterinary Hospital, a modern, technologically-advanced small animal veterinary facility. Dr. Wicklund provides wellness (preventative) and illness care, nutrition and behavior counseling, dental care, diagnostic and imaging (x-ray and ultrasound) services, pharmacy needs, surgery and anesthesia, and geriatric, hospice and end-of-life care (including at-home euthanasia services) for dogs and cats through Wicklund Veterinary Care.

Now in her ninth year of veterinary practice in the valley, Wicklund has a loyal following and has had the pleasure of seeing many pets through an entire life cycle, from puppy/kittenhood through adult years and, heartbreakingly, peacefully through the end of their lives. “The relationships made through serving clients through the entire life of their pets are so important,” says Wicklund. “It is a privilege and a gift, and truly is the most meaningful aspect of veterinary medicine to me.”

Dr. Wicklund was voted Medford’s third favorite veterinarian in 2014, the first year that Wicklund Veterinary Care was in business. “This was quite a joy and a surprise….there are many, many wonderful veterinarians in the valley and to be ranked so highly in my first year of Wicklund Veterinary Care really meant the world to me,” says Wicklund. The following year, Wicklund was again granted the honor, being listed as one of the top five veterinarians in Medford. Her clientele continues to grow, with word-of-mouth a large component of her referrals. Says Wicklund, “It is so rewarding to have new clients come in and happily share that they were referred by friends or family.”

Importantly, Wicklund wants to give a shout out to the supportive technical and administrative staff that make any veterinarian’s job achievable. “The support staff I work with are caring and knowledgeable people that make the client’s visit comfortable and my job efficient. Working together as a team is what makes the whole work better than the sum of its parts,” says Wicklund. “In addition, Dr. Beth Gurney of Alder Creek Veterinary Hospital and I work closely together and cover for each other when needed to ensure continuity of care.”

At Wicklund Veterinary Care, the goal is to make trips to the vet comfortable not only for the  pet, but for the client. Flexible scheduling is offered so that pets can be seen at a time most convenient for their humans. Drop-off appointments are available as well to aid scheduling conflicts. Client education is a key piece to a healthy pet, and Wicklund actively encourages client involvement in pet medical decisions. “My pets are my family, and that is how your pet will be treated while with us. You can be assured that you will also receive expert medical advice for your pet through all life stages. Whether it be new puppy or kitten consultations, general health maintenance in middle age, emergency care in times of trouble, or senior care later in life, I look forward to guiding you through the medical decisions that come with providing the best care for your furry friends.”

Jennifer, a big believer in giving back to the community, serves on the Advisory Board of Sanctuary One, a care farm in the Applegate Valley. She volunteers her time monthly to visit the Sanctuary to provide advice and treatment for resident dogs and cats. She’s also served as the Secretary of the Board of the local veterinary professional organization, the Rogue Valley Veterinary Medical Association, for the last five years. In addition to her private practice, she currently also serves as the Director of Medical Services/Veterinarian for SoHumane, the Southern Oregon Humane Society, and serves as the on-site veterinarian/anesthesiologist for Sage Veterinary Imaging, which provides advanced imaging capabilities via MRI exams for pets at a local facility.

Dr. Wicklund would love to hear from you if you are in need of any veterinary help with a companion dog or cat. Among the benefits of Wicklund Veterinary Care are at-home euthanasia services, flexible appointment hours, drop-off appointments to ease scheduling, online medication ordering direct from a reputable veterinary supplier, an up-to-date Facebook page with announcements regarding upcoming events of interest and urgent veterinary news, and connections within the regional veterinary community which ease referral to specialists if needed for your pet.

Dr. Wicklund takes emergency calls for established clients until 9pm seven days a week and is available to answer emails after-hours seven days a week (both based on availability).
