Fun and Games at Levity Circus Collective

April 2020

Countryside Village RetirementEveryone at one time or another has dreamed of joining the circus. At Ashland’s Levity Circus Collective, which was founded in 2018, they can make that dream come true. The owners include Barbra Kenyon, Ty Vennewitz, Maureen Monroe and Harmony Resounds.

“Levity is a community of circus artists committed to providing a safe and inspiring space for students young and old to learn circus arts right here in Ashland,” Barbra said. “Our students enjoy expert instruction paired with infectious enthusiasm. After learning and training comes performance, where circus artists enjoy the rewards of their hard work.”

Levity’s light-filled 3,000-square-foot studio at 280 E. Hersey, #15, is a one-of-a-kind learning and performance space that provides training, opportunities to perform, and a unique venue for other groups and activities.

“At Levity there is room for everyone’s dream,” Ty said. “Our instructors are experienced and ex-pertly trained in a variety of disciplines and can accommodate beginners all the way to artists preparing for professional cir-cus companies.”

The company offers a range of classes, including silks, aerial rope, trapeze, flexibility, juggling, hooping, cyr wheel, stilt walking and physical comedy.

“Our schedule includes weekly youth and adult classes plus plenty of open training times,” Maureen said. “If our classes don’t fit your schedule, or you want individual attention, we provide private lessons in all of these disciplines. In addition to teaching, our instructors perform as a professional circus company that has been entertaining throughout the Rogue Valley for the last seven years. By collaborating with musicians, dancers, clowns, aerialists and other circus artists, we create spectacular festivals, holiday shows and student showcases.”

Harmony agreed. “We are for hire,” she said. “If you are looking for anything from a five-minute aerial act to a full-length show and everything in between, we can accommodate you. We have performed at the Ashland Armory, county fairs, fundraisers, weddings, private events and each First Friday at the Black Sheep Pub.”

Students of all ages are enthralled by the magic and fun of aerials. Youth and adult circus classes include aerial hoop, trapeze, silks, rope, juggling, hooping, handstands, flexibility, and stilt walking.
Catch the spectacle of Levity performers every First Friday at the Black Sheep Pub and at the Oregon Fringe Festival April 21-26 on the SOU campus. In addition, they offer youth circus camps (Circus Ninjas June 15-18; Flip & Fly July 27-30; taking Flight Aerial Camp August 3-7; and Under the Big Top August 10-14).
