New Owners at The Breadboard Restaurant

September 2020

Countryside Village RetirementEstablished in 1983, The Breadboard Restaurant (744 N. Main Street) has been locally owned and operated for over 36 years. And when Gilberto Tagui and his son Ivan bought the business from Pete and Kristal Foster in December 2019, the tradition behind this local favorite continued.

“The focus has always been on wholesome, fresh ingredients prepared from scratch (local when possible) with generous portions, and that’s what we will continue doing,” Ivan said. “My parents moved from Mexico to the States in 1996 and immediately fell in love with Ashland because of the small-town feel. They started their family here, which includes myself and my two younger siblings.”
Gilberto loves The Breadboard and has been working there since 2009 as a cook.

“In 2015 during my time in high school, I also worked there right before I left for college,” Ivan said. “After so many years of knowing the previous owners, staff and customers, we felt right at home there. In 2019 when the previous owners decided to sell the restaurant, my dad and I thought it would be a great opportunity, so we worked together to make it happen. The restaurant has been a part of our lives for a long time and we value it so much. We also love our small town of Ashland and its people, so we hope that by taking over the restaurant we can continue to be active community members and continue serving the town and our tourists with some of the best food in Southern Oregon.”

For 36 years, The Breadboard has featured family-friendly, casual, homestyle breakfast, brunch and lunch concentrating on large portions, terrific food and fast, friendly service.

Opening a restaurant just months before a pandemic was unfortunate, but Gilberto and Ivan plan to weather the storm.

“As soon as COVID-19 hit, our restaurant took a hit and followed the required guidelines to keep our restaurant safe,” Ivan said. “Our staff is considered family, so we’re doing everything possible to keep them and our customers safe during these challenging times. It is one of the few places in Ashland with a great and open view of the valley. We offer a patio area and tables around our restaurant for folks to enjoy the outdoors during nice weather. These seats are purposely set apart from each other so our customers feel safe during covid times.”
