Tax Season Approaches for Reid, Hanna, Johnson & Co.

December 2019

Countryside Village RetirementEstimates of the U.S. tax code range from 3,000 to 70,000 pages depending on whom you talk with. Even at the lower number, it’s extremely daunting, and on April 15, most Americans bow down to the accountants and CPAs who can figure it all out.

At Reid, Hanna, Johnson & Company CPAs (1101 Siskiyou Boulevard), they’re celebrating 36 years in business guiding Ashland residents and businesses through the complicated maze of taxes. Back in 1983, Tom Reid and Marilyn Hanna bought the former Tischhauser, Cooper & Company, which was founded by Ernie Tischhauser in 1955, and formed their own company.

In 2014, Tom and Marilyn sold the business to Robert S. Johnson, CPA, and in 2017 Charlie J. Burns, CPA, became a co-owner. Both Tom and Marilyn continue to work there.

Charlie moved to Ashland in 2014 when she met and fell in love with her husband. She has been in public accounting in some capacity for 20 years and has been working for tax and audit firms for over 12 years.

“Numbers do not lie,” Charlie said. “They can be challenging and there can be many pieces to the puzzle, so it definitely is not boring. Tax accounting is challenging, and there is always something new.”

Robert has been an Oregon CPA for 35 and actually retired after operating Robert S. Johnson & Co. in Medford for over 20 years. He missed the action, though, and acquired Reid Hanna in 2014.

“I’m an avid golfer and I enjoy the outdoors of the Rogue Valley,” he said. “You might have seen me on the golf course this year cheering on my wife Linda, who won the Senior Women’s Championship earlier this year.”

With tax season approaching, contacting a CPA firm should be on your to-do list. At Reid Hanna, they specialize in tax and accounting for individuals, partnerships, corporations and fiduciaries.
“We provide full-service accounting to local businesses which includes bookkeeping, payroll, tax planning and preparation, as well as business accounting,” Charlie said. “We have a notary in house.

Our CPAs have experience with complicated tax issues and are licensed in multiple states. We enjoy serving our local community while also serving clients from out of the area.”

Robert agreed. “Clients can expect high quality service,” he said. “We pride ourselves on taking care of the clients and providing the time that their specific situation requires. We also do estate tax consulting, and we work closely with other professionals to create the team that each client needs.”
