The Benefits of Tanning at Tahiti Tans
When Tammy and Bob Henry, owners of Tahiti Tans at 1607 Williams Highway, arrived in the Rogue Valley for their honeymoon in 1978, little did they know what they were getting into.
“We honeymooned here and instantly fell in love with the area,” Tammy said. “We went back home to southern California, gave our two-week notice, packed our VW, and headed to Grants Pass.”
Their foray into the tanning business began in 2006. “I had been tanning at several locations for years, and the hair/nail salon next door convinced me to open the tanning salon as an accommodation and benefit to both businesses,” Tammy said. “Realizing the long, foggy, rainy winters around here, I realized a tanning salon had a lot to offer.”
Her husband Bob agreed. “I thought tanning was all about looks and vanity,” he said. “But after learning about the benefits, and hearing stories from our customers on how tanning has helped them with seasonal depression, acne, psoriasis, and the benefits of Vitamin D, I realized tanning had a lot more to offer than just ‘looking good.’ I’ve always enjoyed helping people, and this business is 100% for our customers.”
Tahiti Tans offers seven tanning beds with packages by the month, by the session, or even by the minute.
“We do not require enrollment fees or auto-deduct from a bank,” Tammy said. “You are in control of when you tan and how much you want to spend.”
Customers can expect an extremely warm, clean, and friendly atmosphere with a knowledgeable, helpful staff.
“We put the customers first and we address any complaints immediately,” Bob said. “We realize our customers come to us because they want to, not because they have to. We also provide eye protection goggles and have an inventory of tanning lotions at lower than retail prices. And we have a wide assortment of moisturizers, sunscreen, and Reef sandals.”
Tahiti Tans is a family business and all three daughters (Brittani, Amber and Shelby) are involved.
“Many of our customers tan prior to cruises, Hawaii, Mexico, and other vacations,” Tammy said. “Everything is done in moderation. We believe a good base tan is much better than overdoing your first day ‘on the beach’ with painful, dangerous sunburns.”
The business is fully licensed, trained, and adheres to all government questionnaires and regulations.
