In April of last year Vince and Julee Lockett bought the Eugene-based business Playhouse Coffee Roasting, and relocated it right here to Talent. “We’re both southern Oregon natives,” Julee said. “Vince has been a career fireman here for District 5 for 23 years, and I’ve been at the Phoenix/Talent School District for almost 20 years.”
The couple now runs Playhouse Coffee Roasting out of their Talent shop, which includes roasting, packaging and storage of premium artisan coffee beans.
“We kind of fell into the business,” Julle continued. “While I drink coffee most of the day, Vince doesn’t even like it!
“When the opportunity arose to check into buying the business neither one of us knew much about the different types and blends and especially how to roast the beans. After a couple lessons from the previous owners, we thought it would be a great new adventure.”
Now they buy 150 pound bags of green—mostly organic—coffee beans from origins all over the world. “We then custom roast them to order in our artisan roaster, so our coffee is always fresh! We sell and deliver our coffee in 5 pound, 1 pound, 12 ounce, and 4 ounce bags.”
They also have a delicious organic cold brew offered in half gallon or pint sized.
