Star Properties Finds a New Home in Talent

Countryside Village Retirement

Jack Latvala loves Talent.

He’s lived in or around this fine city since 1972 after moving here from Arcata. “I originally came up to visit my parents who lived in the Gold Hill area,” Jack remembered.

“It was sunny as opposed to the fog of Humboldt County and I was sold. I raised my two children here, one of whom still lives in Talent. Two of my grandchildren live here as well.”

Jack received his real estate license in 1986 and originally worked in Ashland. Then started Star Properties in 1993 along with Don Rist. “I bought out Don a few years later and originally had a branch office in Talent, with the main office in Ashland. After a few years I realized my heart felt at home in Talent and I loved the low key and friendly environment. I ultimately moved the main office here. I have lived in various locations in the Talent area off and on since I moved here and currently live in the Wagner Creek Valley.”

Star Properties is a full service real estate office serving the Rogue Valley, but specializing in the Talent and Wagner Creek Valley areas.

“I feel that I offer a professional, yet laid back approach to purchasing and selling real estate. I do feel that I have a lot to offer a client, especially with my longstanding knowledge of the Talent area. I also have a long list of tried and tested professional service businesses that I am happy to share with my clients.”

Jack just moved his office to a new location at 314 East Main Street. You might recognize this building as the center that also houses The Grotto Pizzeria, The Talent Makers City, the Talent Clinic as well as the wig and seamstress shops for the Camelot Theater. “I just went into ownership of the building along with Rick Harris and his wife Ellen Dennis. We have lots of plans for the center, including new exterior modifications and signage, along with the re paving of the parking lot this Spring. We hope to make the center a bigger part of Talent and as well host more public events. I love the other tenants, and we hope to work as a team to support each other’s businesses.”

They also will have a new name and image for the center, which will hopefully be unveiled this Spring or Summer.

Jack has also been involved with various committees in the Talent area and served on the Architectural Review Committee for many years and was the chairperson for part of that time. He also assisted the City of Talent in their purchase of the area that now houses the City Hall and commons area. He served on the committee that restored the building that now houses the Talent Town Hall. “I truly believe in Historic Preservation and have fought for Talent to keep as many of the older homes as possible. I try to support the Talent Historical Society as much as possible. I also try to support the schools in the area including the Boys and Girls Club as well as the Phoenix-Talent Little League and the Phoenix High School sports programs.”
