Simplifying Your Life with the School of the New Work

Alexis DelgadoAlexis (Lexi) Delgado wants people to know that they don’t have to stay “stuck” in an unhappy life.  Getting unstuck can be as simple—or as difficult—as returning to our simpler selves, trusting our intuition and our inner strength.

Lexi has developed the “School of the New Work” to give people a new way to look at their lives. Her approach is based on what she learned about psychology, brain science, mindfulness practice, yoga, somatic therapies, and ancient traditions after working as a mental health therapist for more than 15 years.

“School of the New Work is a play on words,” Lexi said. “What we do is not new; I see it as skills and tools we used when life was simpler, when we were closer to our true nature as human beings.”
She helps people tap into what she terms “tools that are part of our human birthright”—intuition; perception beyond what we can see, hear or touch; and our ability to learn and understand from our instincts rather than from research, the Internet, and piles of data.

“Our world has created a harsh inner critic in many of us, a habit of second guessing ourselves, and a fear of being judged,” she said. “Learning healthier habits of reflection, self love, and positivity are life-changing tools.”

Lexi came to this new approach after a turning point in her own life following the birth of her second child.

“I went through a huge health crisis, left my job and had a shift in my perception about what people struggle with, how we heal, and what my greatest contribution to our community can be,” she said.
For 20 years, Ashland has been her community. She and her husband, Carlos, an architect, moved here from Costa Rica during the flood of 1997. Lexi recalls it was a wild time to arrive. “We met our Railroad District neighbors while waiting in line to use the porta-potties,” she said.
After living 18 years in town, they moved to a location just outside of Ashland, where she holds workshops and retreats.

Lexi offers one-on-one sessions, or classes and group sessions. There are monthly day-long workshops, and a nine-month “Apprenticeship to the Mystery” program that starts in September. There are programs for couples and for youth.

Clients learn tools and practices to use in daily life. A weekly blog and podcast on the school’s website allows students to continue their progress throughout the week. For more info, go to schoolofthenewwork.com or lexidelgado.com. The phone number is 541-951-1315.
