ASANTE WELCOMES DR. JOHN (JEB) REID, MD

February 2021

John Jeb Reid MDAs the largest health care provider in nine counties, Asante provides comprehensive medical care to more than 600,000 people in southern Oregon and northern California. Their facilities include Asante Ashland Community Hospital and Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center in Medford, and Asante Three Rivers Medical Center in Grants Pass.

At Asante Ashland, Asante Physician Partners Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine (269 Maple Street) is proud to welcome John (Jeb) Reid, MD, to their staff. Jeb is an orthopedic surgeon and a U.S. Ski Team physician.

“Oregon has always felt like home to me,” Dr. Reid said. “I went to medical school and completed my orthopedic residency here and was in private practice in Oregon before moving to Taos, New Mexico, where I was in academic medicine teaching and training orthopedic sports medicine fellows. After 15 years in Taos, I was ready for a new challenge and my wife was ready to come back to the West Coast.”

Dr. Reid’s practice has been mostly sports medicine, with a focus on knee and shoulder problems.
“I provide mostly arthroscopic and minimally invasive procedures as well as treat non-operative conditions,” he said. “I also perform total knee and partial knee replacements. The great thing about medicine is that it’s truly both an art and a science. I get to take care of people every day and get to know them. I go home at the end of the day with a real sense of purpose. It’s also a challenging career and at times humbling.”

Dr. Reid has worked with the U.S. Ski Team for more than 15 years, covering alpine races throughout North America and Europe as well as pre-season training in the southern hemisphere. That passion also translates into his personal life.

“Our family loves outdoor activities,” he said. “We ski a lot. We also bike, hike and camp. We love photography and cooking. I love to read and am fascinated with American history. I love dogs. My current best friend is a 2-year-old blue heeler named Banjo. We do everything together and look forward to exploring Southern Oregon. I’m also a huge classic car enthusiast with a passion for originality and patina.”

As a community service, Dr. Reid is providing a free, public lecture via ZOOM with OLLI (Osher Lifelong Learning Institute) at Southern Oregon University on Wednesday, Feb. 17, at 7pm. To register, visit inside.sou.edu/olli or call (541) 552-6048.

In the end, it’s all about the medicine. “It’s important to listen and understand what the patient is going through,” Dr. Reid said. “When I’m building a relationship with my patient, first I want to get to know the individual, understand their culture and understand how the medical problem is affecting them. Then we can address the injury.”
